EGREMONT — Green Committee discusses climate awards and food waste initiatives. Chair Emily Eyre reported that Egremont will not pursue Massachusetts' Climate Leader award due to requirements for municipal fleet electrification, which poses challenges for police, fire, and highway vehicles. The committee scrapped a vacation rentals food recovery program after learning tenants must claim leftovers.
Its FY2027 budget of $275 was submitted to the Board of Selectmen. Committee members are now researching the "Too Good to Go" app for potential rollout in Egremont and Great Barrington, with Associate Susan Fine examining restaurant and market requirements, Marj Wexler investigating local food-waste reduction efforts, and Sharon Waskow consulting a New York City bakery contact on operational details.
