Housing Trust advances short-term rental bylaw toward May town meeting.

Egremont Municipal Housing Trust · Meeting of February 11, 2026

EGREMONT — The Egremont Municipal Housing Trust Board advanced a short-term rental bylaw toward May town meeting, establishing a $400 initial registration fee and $300 annual renewal, with inspection fees to be set by the Select Board or building inspector. Vice-Chairman Doug Mishkin chaired the meeting with nine members present in person or remotely. The draft bylaw, written by members Judith Goodman and Doug Mishkin, permits individual, trust, and LLC ownership but bars corporate ownership, reduces the waiting period for new registrations from one year to six months, and imposes fines of $1,000 for a first violation, $2,000 for a second, and $3,000 for a third, with permanent license revocation possible after three violations.

Housing Trust member Russell Becker raised concerns about the bylaw's impact on local businesses and housing availability.
