EGREMONT — Housing Trust and Planning Board present competing short-term rental proposals. Chair Mary McGurn outlined a zoning bylaw permitting short-term rentals by right in village and rural districts with site-based parking and access standards; Vice-Chair Doug Mishkin presented a general bylaw capping properties at 50, imposing $400 registration and $300 annual renewal fees, and limiting rentals to 90 nights per year after a two-year grace period. Current short-term rental operators, including Blake McDonald, opposed the 90-night cap as economically unviable and urged a 150-night threshold.
The Planning Board hearing is April 14; a second community session is set for April 29, with the Special Town Meeting vote scheduled for June 10.
