Housing Trust Board advances short-term rental bylaw toward June vote.

Egremont Municipal Housing Trust · Meeting of March 26, 2026

Egremont Housing Trust Board advances short-term rental bylaw toward June town meeting. The board voted unanimously to recommend the bylaw, as amended, to the Select Board for placement on the June 10th special town meeting agenda, after debating whether to modify the previously adopted 50-unit cap and 90-night limit. Board members Blake McDonald and others argued the thresholds would penalize existing operators and deter new short-term rental purchases, while Chair Richard Stanley emphasized linking the regulatory and zoning bylaws to avoid legal confusion.

The board agreed a registration process rather than full site plan reviews could identify non-compliant properties among Egremont's roughly 90 short-term rental homes.
