Select Board approves highway hire, police academy, and $900,000-plus in capital spending.

EGREMONT — Select Board approves highway hire, police and fire vehicle purchases totaling over $300,000. The board voted unanimously to hire Patrick Nilson as a CDL equipment operator at $30.52 per hour for the Highway Department, to send a police officer to the academy, and to place a warrant article authorizing a fifth full-time police officer position. The board also approved a new police vehicle for $82,000 and an EMS first responder vehicle for $105,000.

In a March 26 reconvened session, Fire Chief Joe Schneider secured approval for a fourth full-time firefighter at $65,000 salary, funded by reallocating $36,500 from the on-call stipend budget, and the board unanimously approved Administrative Assistant pay at $25 per hour, transition of the Web Administrator to a contracted vendor role at $32,000 annually, and wage increases across the town set between 3.8 and 4.3 percent.
